My Travel/Work Blog

Work and Play

Our brains respond to novel and exciting experiences. When we grow too familiar with locations or activities, they become boring. When we say yes to new opportunities, it can lead to more exciting experiences. You may not like everything you try, but taking on a yes attitude will give you a breadth of experience and can improve your life, relationships, and career. Fortunately, my work has taken me to places. Whether discussing politics with locals in a city bar, understanding unusual rock formations in spectacular scenery or working out the meaning of life in a remote island in Asia. These questions drive my passion for independent travel and invoke my curiosity to see the world through the eyes of locals — and sharing it with you.

The Phi Phi Islands are an island group between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand. One of my favorite stopovers in Asia.

My work has taken me to the far corners of the world.

The Great Wall of China

Working in Asia, I have the chance to visit cities and places as the Great Wall, an imposing architectural marvel, and it’s often hailed as one of the greatest man-made wonders of the world. The Great Wall of China’s history stretches back more than 2,000 years, to a time before China was even a unified country.

My job in Shanghai

Follow My Journeys

Shanghai has been described as the “showpiece” of the booming economy of China. Featuring several architectural styles such as Art Deco and shikumen, the city is renowned for its Lujiazui skyline, museums and historic buildings including the City God Temple, Yu Garden, the China Pavilion and buildings along the Bund.

Shanghai culture is rooted in traditional Chinese culture, based on the fusion of the essence of Wu and Yue culture and culture in other regions of China, and also absorbs to a lot of foreign culture, mainly western culture.

My interpretation students in Shanghai

The Chinese language is often considered one of the world’s most difficult languages to learn, but this sentiment is a major oversimplification. Like any language, learning Chinese has its challenges.

My studies in Geneva

Graduated from the University of Geneva, I have been training conference interpreters as well as interpreter trainers at the highest level. My research interests include  development of online training platforms, blended learning courses and self-administered online training modules for conference interpreters.

Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong

When interpreting some trade shows in Singapore and Hong Kong, I found some free time to fly to Malaysia and rented a motorcycle to travel around the islands.

Breathtaking designs

The architectural designs range from grandiose and tall skyscrapers to artistic and zen-like performing arts centers. These designs highlight Asian architecture in all its iterations, from traditional designs to avant-garde skyscrapers. The spirit of Singapore has been captured in this new Digital Cloud Skyscraper for the World Expo in 2010. The project, led by Singapore-based Design Act, uses cubes to generate a modern skyscraper sculpture. The picture to the right is commonly referred to as The Big Pants Building in Suzhou, or known by its formal name The Gate to the East. Below other three buildings I visited.

Burj Khalifa
Known as the Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration in 2010, is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

New York City

Presenting my e-book at the United Nations

I presented the first ebook at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC in 2016 to a large group of interpreters that intended to acquire Spanish C to their language classification. Excerpts of the presentation can be viewed in the following video.

During my free time in New York...

While biking in Central Park I found the greenest ride one will find in NYC. My favorite stops are visiting places like The Met, one of the world’s most comprehensive art museums, with nearly 2 million works of art from five millennia of human history.

Also I recommend visiting MoMA. Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh are among the many well-known artists whose work is on display at MoMA; anyone who cares about art will find something to get excited about. You’ll never know when these painters will appear in some of your interpretation assignments!

Washington DC

Working in press conferences and meetings

Interpreting meetings at the National Press Club and for Nancy Patricia Pelosi, who has served as speaker of the United States House of Representatives since 2019.

Interpreting the Freedom House Awards Gala in Washington for the Freedom of the Press Award Recipient – Hector Magneto. Grupo Clarin.

During my free time in Washington...

I visited the Smithsonian and delved into the fascinating story of our planet, from its fiery beginnings through billions of years of transformation, and explore life on Earth through exhibitions and activities, collection objects and research that happens in the lab and in the field.

Whenever I travel I like visiting museums like the National Gallery of Art. For the breadth, scope, and magnitude of its collections, the National Gallery is considered to be one of the greatest museums in the United States of America.

MY sports and hobbies

Backpacking, island hopping, surfing, paddle boarding, hiking, mountain biking, wakeboarding, boating, photography, video editing, dogs, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, and yoga, among others.
