What the future will hold as of 2022

There is no doubt that 2022 will be a year of great growth both personally and professionally. While others may struggle with innovation, for me overcoming challenges, creating content, writing, innovating, and meeting high standards is something I see as usual business. I might as well JUST DO IT by facilitating structured mentorship and coaching opportunities, developing new learning pathways within a Learning Management System while driving continuous improvement, free of old and dated methodologies.

Current initiatives

We have identified knowledge gaps, working across functions with talent development teams to build a new conference training program. Our extensive experience in delivering corporate training programs throughout the years is a solid base for the creation of a comprehensive e-learning program combining local and international talent to tackle the challenges of 2022 successfully.

Creating my personal brand

In mid-2021 I launched my personal brand Martin Soriano (The Event Maker), a significant challenge which is designed to explore a proactive research approach to training in different spheres. I am keen to see what the future holds for me and my team, in the next stage of our journey.

Anticipating the pandemic

In 2020, the pandemic hit the hospitality and events industry. As a result I swiftly shifted my work into a remote environment, developing new instruction formats and capsules. As Learning and Development (L&D) Program Manager, I am responsible for developing and implementing training programs, interacting with senior leaders, human resource business partners (HRBPs), and other L&D programs to support the development of foundational capabilities.

My trip to Asia

In 2019, I was hired by the Chinese Government to train their cadre of interpreters in Spanish. I took the opportunity to visit the region and network with colleagues in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Southern China. As a visiting Professor at Shanghai International Studies University in China, I have been teaching simultaneous interpretation from Chinese into Spanish.

My third company

In mid-2016, following extension observation and analysis of the growth in demand for online instruction, I launched the first online simultaneous interpreting training courses with students and instructors from different countries on www.interpretacion.com.ar, taking advantage of LMS to offer unique distance learning opportunities in a well-organized and supported environment.

Continuing with other business ventures

In 2016, I set up another company called Seminars, which rents out fully-equipped conference rooms and co-working spaces. My experience in the audio visual sector meant I was ideally placed to provide fully equipped integrated solutions for customers needing to organize multilingual workshops and meetings.

My e-books and elearning experience

From 2016 to 2019, I wrote three interactive e-books on interpreting with Spanish C. I was fortunate to gain experience building training programs and developing curricula for geographically dispersed audiences to deliver a blended learning environment.

My advanced studies and research into training

In 2014, I completed my Master of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) at the University of Geneva. My thesis focuses on accelerating the pace of learning by using e-books and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

My first book

In 2007, I wrote my first book about interpreting, which is currently used by professional interpreters throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia for Spanish C language acquisition. I became a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) in 2007.

My interpretation experience

I have extensive experience of coordinating and managing international congresses and events, scheduling simultaneous interpreting assignments in several languages and managing audio-visual equipment rental for thousands of events. I have managed logistics and rentals in small and large venues throughout Latin America since 2002.

First company I cofounded

In 1999, I set up McDonough Interpretación Simultánea, a company I cofounded to provide interpreting services, where I singlehandedly designed and created the audiovisual rental division. My main responsibilities ranged from scheduling conferences with equipment rentals to booking and training interpreters.

My first years

I started working in corporate training in 1993 and graduated as a sworn translator in 1995, working on numerous translation projects in the energy, oil & gas, telecom, and business sectors, among others.
